Mackerel (Bangda): Mackerel is a common name applied to a number of different species of pelagic fish, mostly, but not exclusively, from the family Scombridae. They are slim and cylindrical shaped fish found in warm shallow waters along the coasts of the Indian and Western Pacific oceans. They have very high levels of Omega- 3 fatty acid.

Bangda Curry:

Ingredients:

  • Fish cut into pieces
  • 8/10 - dry chilies
  • 1 tsp - turmeric
  • 1 tsp - Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp - red chili powder
  • 7/8 - garlic flakes coarsely grounded
  • 2 - onions sliced finely
  • 1 cup - grated coconut
  • 1 tsp - Malvani Fish Masala or any other Fish masala Salt as per taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Preparation:

  • 1/4 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - thick tamarind paste
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp - thick ginger - garlic paste (fresh and homemade)
  • Mix above ingredients together and make a smooth paste.

Method:

  • Clean the Fish, Apply a little salt and turmeric and keep aside.
  • In three tbsp Oil fry Onion, Dry chilies, Turmeric and Coriander seeds till the Onions turn light brown.
  • Grind the grated coconut with above ingredients to a paste.
  • Apply the ground paste to the fish and keep aside to marinate for 15 min.
  • Fry the Garlic flakes in 5 tbsp oil, add red chili powder and Fish Masala.
  • Add the fish pieces with the marinade and add 2 cup water, simmer on low heat till the fish is cooked.

Now garnish with coriander leaves....Ready To Serve 

Bangda Fry:

Ingredients:

  • 6 - BANGDA slices (net weight 250 g)
  • 1 tbsp - lemon juice
  • 1 cup (100 g) - rice flour
  • 2 tbsp - chopped coriander leaves
  • 200 ml - oil for frying
  • Salt as per taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

For Marinate:

  • 1/4 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - thick tamarind paste
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp - thick ginger - garlic paste (fresh and homemade)
  • Mix above ingredients together and make a smooth paste.

Method (Step 1):

  • Wash and clean fish pieces. Drain out water thoroughly.
  • Wipe each fish pieces with a kitchen towel.
  • Apply lemon juice and salt (1 st marinade) and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • Apply 2nd marinade evenly on each fish pieces and keep aside for 1 hour.
  • Mix rice flour with chopped coriander leaves and 1/4 teaspoon salt....

Method (Step 2):

  • Dip each marinated fish pieces over rice flour - coriander mix and coat well evenly.
  • Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan.
  • Reduce heat to medium and deep fry fish pieces till golden brown color and crisp on both the sides

Drain and place on kitchen towel to absorb extra oil….Ready To Serve
